wonkydog Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Ok then peeps, summer is here! (Not that you would think so, had to take three detours on the way home this afternoon due to flooded/closed roads. Got within three miles at one point, then had to drive around for another hour). This thread was started so as to give ideas to everyone about how to keep the young ones quiet. We plan to do lots of art/painting/model type stuff. My eldest says she is not going to let the water bother her ears anymore when we go swimming. Going to let them do some more cooking as well. Anyone wish to share their guaranteed methods? Quote
mumof4 Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Bakeing with my lot...loadsa fun..kitchen will look like bags of flour have been thrown in the air but its worth it.Also we play lots of games and we go out for walks.....mind..we do this stuff all the time anyway so no different really. Quote
jkspoff Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 The rain is now driving us all mad, even the dog is deeply depressed, kids need sun and playing out time, but even as I speak the rain is torrential. The BBQ that we bought 3 months ago has still not be used once yet. I just hope now that the schools broke up today in our area that the sun arrives ASAP as I don't know what we'll do with them for 6 long weeks of rain rain rain...........but I suppose thats why this thread has bee started, look forward to seeing the suggestions before I go completely stir crazy ! Oh and one more thing...turn off the telly and remember that clearing up can wait till the kids have gone to bed if needs be..as a good time at home playing games etc with them..is worth more than a holiday abroad somewhere. teresa Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 well my 13 yr old has decided she will be out during the holidays with her mates ... we are going camping in a 2 weeks so that will be different especially if this rain keeps up... think i will have to get a hobby as i will be bored with nothing to do Quote
wonkydog Posted July 20, 2007 Author Report Posted July 20, 2007 I like the fruit painting idea. What can we use old CDs (blank/scratched/newspaper giveaways) for? We're going to try and make some kind of mirror ball for parties and the likes. Quote

wonkydog Posted July 20, 2007 Author Report Posted July 20, 2007 (edited) Yep, got plenty of newspaper ready. Two piles, one for the recycling tip and one to protect the carpet and use for mache. Hobbycraft do the cheapest packs of kids paintbrushes I think. Edited July 20, 2007 by wonkydog Quote
mumof4 Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 dont bother taking any for recycling..you will need it all over the next 6 weeks! with kids..keeping them amused you have to think like a kid!..easy..i do it thats why my kids think im nuts.lol. what you can also do..which can be spectacular in results..is gather together any old bits and bobs no longer required..boxes..yoghurt pots..a few tea bags..(unused).....buttons....scraps of material..foil..etc.......lump the lot on the table and see what the kids can think of to make!!..fun for you to do aswell. If you need any more ideas etcc..just let me know...im a whizz at keeping kids entertained.lol paintbrushes!!..i never bothered..cheap sponges or scourers do the trick..cut them into any shape you want! wonkydog Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Rain doesn't help. Neither does the tannoy message for "All swimmers wearing red wristbands to leave now thankyou". Spent longer in the place on a bank holiday weekend. And the car park was half full. Only in the pool today for 1 hour 20 mins! Still, went to Legoland the other day and now have annual tickets. Weather looks good for the weekend! Come to think about it, I didn't hear any other wristband colours called out before us! Quote
